Rajasthan broke with tradition and elected to bat first when these teams last met but, after suffering defeat, they have tended to field first since.

Jos Buttler had already left for home to attend the birth of his child, while fellow England internationals Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer signed off with a win against Kolkata Knight Riders. With all three now on international duty, Rajasthan must rotate their overseas options – Oshane Thomas replaced out-of-form Ashton Turner last time out, while Liam Livingstone and Ish Sodhi could feature against Sunrisers.

Varun Aaron also came into the team last time out, with Dhawal Kulkarni making way.

RR Key Players

Ajinkya Rahane hit an unbeaten century despite defeat to Delhi Capitals and followed that up with 34 at  the top of the order last time out as he continues to re-find his form. He now has 352 runs from 11 innings at a strike rate of 142.51 to lead the Royals’ batting charts.

Jos Buttler is next on the list but, of the batsman still in Jaipur, Steve Smith follows with 297, including three half-centuries.

Sanju Samson scored an unbeaten century when these teams last met, meanwhile – like Rahane, doing so in a losing cause. He has 261 runs in nine innings in total.

With Ben Stokes away, Liam Livingstone could now have the opportunity to show his qualities. The big-hitting Englishman was in good form in Pakistan but is yet to get his chance to shine in the IPL.

With the ball, Shreyas Gopal has consistently picked up wickets and now has 13 from 11 matches in total.

With Jofra Archer, their second-highest wicket-taker, now absent, Oshane Thomas will be tasked with stepping up after his 1-32 last time out.

RR Team Form

Rajasthan Royals got back to winning ways last time out as their inconsistent form continued. The Royals have now won three of their last five games.

Steve Smith scored an unbeaten half-century to lead a chase of 162 in a five-wicket win against Mumbai Indians, but they could not back that up against Delhi Capitals. Ajinkya Rahane scored 105 not out from 63 balls in a total of 191/6 but the Royals fell to a six-wicket defeat.

Last time out, however, the Royals were back to their best. Varun Aaron took 2-20 to help restrict Kolkata to 175/6 and Rajasthan claimed a three-wicket in with four balls to spare.

SRH Team News

Jonny Bairstow’s excellent IPL stint is now over after the Yorkshireman was summoned for England duty. He will now be replaced at the top of the order by Martin Guptill, who has had to be patient with Bairstow and David Warner in such good form.

Shakib Al Hasan was back in action last time out, meanwhile, with Kane Williamson unavailable due to personal reasons. The Bangladeshi all-rounder could miss out again, however, with the Sunrisers’ captain expected back.

Bairstow’s absence means Wriddhiman Saha could come into the team too, meanwhile, with Deepak Hooda the likely man to miss out to accommodate the wicket-keeper.

SRH Key Players

David Warner is in outstanding form with the bat, leading the tournament’s batting charts having hit seven half-centuries and one unbeaten hundred in his ten innings so far in IPL 2019. The big-hitting Australian has 574 runs in total and a strike rate of 146.05.

Sunrisers also boast the second highest run-scorer and now, in Jonny Bairstow’s absence, Martin Guptill needs to fill that void. Guptill scored back-to-back centuries for New Zealand against Bangladesh in February’s ODI series.

Few runs have been needed further down the order given Warner and Bairstow’s form, but Manish Pandey smashed 83 not out from 49 balls in the defeat to Chennai last time out.

Rashid Khan has taken ten wickets from ten games to lead the Sunrisers’ bowling again. The Afghanistan leg-spinner also has an economy rate of just 6.15 runs per over.

Sandeep Sharma also has ten wickets but has been more expensive. Bhuvenshwar Kumar, as well as taking over as captain in Williamson’s absence, has eight wickets so far and Khaleel Ahmed has taken seven from four matches.

SRH Team Form

Sunrisers Hyderabad lost three matches in a row before victory against Chennai Super Kings. Rashid Khan took 2-17 as Chennai were limited to 132/5, before Jonny Bairstow’s unbeaten 61 eased Sunrisers to a six-wicket win. They followed that up with another win – their fifth of the tournament – when Khaleel Ahmed claimed 3-33 and Rashid Khan 1-23 to restrict Kolkata to 159/8. David Warner (67) and Bairstow (80*) shared a 131-run partnership in reply, in just 12.2 overs as Sunrisers cruised to a nine-wicket win.

Last time out, however, Chennai avenged their defeat in the previous meeting. Warner (57) and Manish Pandey (83*) led Sunrisers to 175/3. The Super Kings sealed a six-wicket win with just one ball to spare, however.
